OYOH, with more reproductive starts, there is more material for organisms to struggle with each other, in the primal ooze. More chances, then, for the superior biological mechanism/trial copy of DNA to show its stuff, and trample the weaker nest-mates, for which there is plentiful precedent in nature in general.

A principle I learned on early-days television (Disney?): Nature is careless with the individual, but gives priority to the species.
