Edit
You introduce "religion" into the equation, which is the "crux"of cultural manipulation as religio-emotional response.
Our sacrificial rituals are grounded and expressed in heroism - mainly military, but also in rescue, whether by SWAT, FD, Coastguard, EMT, brilliant surgeon, etc.
We have "willing sacrifice" buried in many locations called National Cemeteries.
The abortion sacrifice revolves around "the innocent". This can be interpreted as sacrifice of the innocents.
This fact arouses intense emotional reaction, which is appropriated by fundamentalists and evangelicals in a way that distorts the truth. The truth being that life can be very cruel. A Grizzly devouring its offspring, a hit and run, a Phil Spector or Cho, and so on.
