Well, so there's some common ground to build from.

During a famine, dividing the rations too thinly is still fatal. Or, (hypothetical-theoretical) when there's standing room only, some people would literally *die* to get some sleep, maybe?

In brief: Under extreme desperate life-space, narrow life-sustaining conditions, everybody's judgement on abortion tends to converge.

In the soylent green, soylent yellow scenarioes, some of the flock just gets thinned out at a later age, that's all?

In the present living space competition, maybe the fertility-high nations are just catching up for foreseen anticipated losses?
