"Likewise", I think a fully rational person should be allowed to take some assistance from Dr. Kervorkian, with extensive precautions. A choice to die can be rational if offered as a legal alterative, and save unnecessary suffering. This is consistent with the "property" concept, IMO.

As for a pet, one *can* choose the big veterinarian bill and daily shots (painless) for a diabetic cat (symptom: weak hind legs) and be/get very impressed and happy with the dramatic improvement. :-)

In that case, you are also/still deciding what to do with *your*, property, namely some money.

People with some grit and some foresight are already allowed to put a withhold order on life-saving measures in a routine advance medical directive.
