DWA> Is "man" really different from "animal" in this rather vigorously enforced social convention for clothing? That seems to go all the way back to the aprons at the Garden of Eden?
Funny that you bring this because just last week I heard on the radio that a man in Baltimore(I think) was arrested for not wearing a shirt in public. Apparently some old law that the city still insists on pursuing even today. It seems very young children are allowed to run around the yard, pool, beach, park, etc without any problems but an adult does and there is trouble. Some adults though form nudist groups. Even here in South Dakota I have heard rumors that there is a nudist beach. I think that for most of history it was probably a means of survival and possibly religion. Today there are laws against claiming it immoral but mostly on religious grounds. The cats sometimes hop on my bed when I am changing clothes giving me a weird look. It's almost as if they are wondering why I change my fur each day. Clothing is a man thing that animals do not care about either way IMO. You've roused my curiosity enough to find out if there are tribes of people that go around completely naked or just partially. From what I've seen in magazines and on television most tribes cover at least the penis and woman where a skirt of some sort. Not sure if that is the way all do it though. I do think however that it is a learned behavior rather than an inborn one.
