I've stated before that I don't get my facts from online free sources. I subscribe to a number of professional journals as I need the original published paper copy for court presentation. A google search on the terms "teen suicide USA" returns over 2.5 million hits. In the 15 to 25 age group, suicide is the third largest contributor to deaths. In the 10 to 14 age group, it is fourth. Since 2000, the number of suicides in the 15 to 24 age group has risen by 6%. In the 10 to 14 age group over the same period the number of suicides has increased by 100%. If the Swine Flu were causing as many deaths as youth suicide, the entire country would go into lockdown. FYI sexual abuse IS a sex and sexuality issue. NCMEC put the number of boys who are (in their terms) "sexually abused" (which includes wholly consensual sexual interaction) at around 1 in 5 in the USA, as do Rind et al. Finklehor (1984) put the number at 1 in 9. Also, FYI, children under 18 can not view quality information on sex in any public or school library in the USA, and the most likely place on the net they will go for sex ed is porn sites. For the most part, they are not interested in reading about it, they want to see it and they want to DO it! If you still have doubts, then consider this, the US states that have the highest rates of teen pregnancies are also the states with the most hysterical and bigoted anti-sex laws. Conversely, those states with the most liberal laws, have the lowest rates of teen pregnancies. You want to live in the only country in the world where children have no rights whatsoever until the age of 18, be my guest, but kindly keep your bigoted bullshit within your own borders instead of ramming it down the throats of the rest of the world. |
