I am in agreement with your assessment pretty much all the way through.

What is saddening is the number of those that remain diss-connected to the depth and the underpinnings of his behavior. Not being able to relate to or understand they become either sympathetic or judgmental and punitive. Either way it creates a cognitive 'blank' as to how to deal with it. And prevents a large percentage of people from reacting in a rational way. A way that would evolve toward some form of useful intervention that could be put in place for others to use.

CBM; ***One former associate dates his decline to the period when he stopped actively practicing his religion and started becoming obsessed with his appearance.***

But his religion, (Jehovah's Witness), is in it's self a bit 'bizarre'. And I am personally FAR more acquainted with that particular faith, IN DEPTH than I want to go into detail with here. I certainly promotes an image issue that is 'un-healthy' and a sense of dependency that would be best to avoid. And when it, as it usually will, comes up short in fulfilling self prophesy it really don't leave much room to wriggle.

This religion plants all the required seeds to become 'obsessive' so he kinda 'landed' with a running start. It can be difficult to stop the slippery slide down the slope when it is so well prepared. When the attention seeker is fed with such adulation as you know it would be difficult to put a whoa on it.

Does NOT excuse that he went so far off the path and delved into harmful acts toward others as all indications are that he did. Just illustrates how powerful obsessions and phobia's can be it the way they take control.
