Admittedly you raise the point that I did not answer the question in a way which was semantically correct. Of course we know that given the correct safety equipment (or the right conditions) one can go as fast as it is possible to go. (If we take Einstiens limit this would be 300,000 km/s) however in all these cases there are safety devices used to ensure the safety of the operator (although these are generally only introduced once the danger has been demonstrated). In the case of cloning and genetic manipulation can we afford any costly mistakes? Far better to look at the problems and drawbacks before embarking on a perilious course, if these are tested prior to full scale commercialisation large scale harm can be avoided.
