The year: 2025.

The place: Anytown, USA.

The middle-aged man walked down the street, casually watching the two boys play basketball with a garage net in front of their house. It wasn't a very fair match; apparently one of the boys was older (he wasn't, actually), larger, leaner, and a good deal faster, and his friend or brother was wearing glasses and had an inhaler poking out of his pocket. The boys noticed him as well, and when the man got close enough so that the bespectacled boy could read his shirt- "Keep Genetic Engineering Illegal"- the smaller boy became absolutely outraged and ran up to him, screaming.

"You! You son of a bitch! How the HELL can you walk around wearing a shirt like that, you scumfuck?!", the boy screamed, rushing at the man, trying to stand on tiptoes to get in his face, reaching for his inhaler if he needed it. "It's thanks to idiots like you that I've got these glasses and this god damn asthma! Both my parents are predisposed to heart disease, you fuck! And I've got to suffer through all this just because people like you said that it was playing God to change it!"

"On the other hand," the other boy said from behind the man ('how'd the hell he'd get behind me?!', the man thought), "I WAS engineered. My parents conceived me in a lab in Venezuela and it cost them thousands of dollars to do it, but look at the result. My parents both wear glasses. Neither one ever had the strength I do. I'm going to live to 90 at least. And I can beat anyone I know at chess."

"And I don't like what you and your people have done to my friend. So it's my responsibility to KICK YOUR ASS." Even if the man had a firearm he would never have stood a chance.

There were no witnesses. The police couldn't make heads nor tails of the crime scene, and the man received a quiet, dignified, closed casket funeral a few weeks later. It would become a fond memory for the friends to talk about for years to come, until the weaker one died at age 45 from heart disease.
