Remi:No, I wouldn't accept the notion that an embryo is "an animal". An animal wakes (has consciousness), sleeps, vocalizes, eats, mates, and participates a bit in the noösphere. "

Well, then, what categories does an embryo fit? Can you back up that definition of yours in some standard reference?

At TT abortion, I have learned to somewhat distinguish between zygotes, embryos, and foetuses. I have argued that all are an animal, and even the sperm qualifies, from my Merriam-Webster dictionary reference.

Crossbowman, in a well reasoned post at TT Abortion was willing to give a foetus, at least, human status.

An ordinary tapeworm is analagous to a developing z/e/f, and few would try/bother to argue that IT is not an animal by the basic standard definitions available.

I merely want people to acknowledge that there is a living creature being killed when their (a z/e/f's) life is deliberately terminated. Skeptic Darrel indicated at TT General recently that there are more chickens on earth than people. Very few of those chickens die of old age, I'll bet.

If you say that a human zygote/embryo/foetus ranks in status with chickens, then I would have no real problem with that. Let's just bravely call a spade a spade, we are killing living life forms when we terminate embryos.
