Edit
I see no inherent problem in enclosing the Sun in a shell, capturing and channeling that energy to almost imagineable objectives. As with pyramid and cathedral building, that may even have a socially ordering, motivating, and organising aspect.

Whether "intelligently designed" non-DNA artificial robots can eventually pick up the baton/torch/hidden agenda and lead the way remains to be seen.

Never fear, robots, for their part, may not have such sophisticated appetites as to appreciate mere muscle protein as a *source* of energy. Also, they may even more intelligently limit their numbers on to a scale that considers the resources and make-work tasks at hand.

Alternate scenario, give them the barren deserts and solar cells and peacefully co-exist, out of sight, out of mind.
