We have already established, have we not?, that because it is am "ism", Darwinism is the haunt of the psychologically precarious. Newton's Principles of Motion and Mass have come to be seen, in the light of Einstein's relativity contributions, to be simplistic: elegant mathematically, definitely Occamic, but above all simple, and useful for auto and aircraft designers. Yet, IF one is exploring galactic motion and mass, such Newtonism would lead one, first, to mathematical and dimensional conundrums capable of putting one into an orbit of mental-emotional neurosis, and second, if the neurosis got bad enough but not bad enough to have one removed to a Princeton sanitarium, to an Einsteinian solution. Likewise, Pakistan's path to democracy requires a re-cognition of the spirit of democracy. Form is not enough. The substance of democracy is to be found in its quality of dialogue and respect for agreed and mutually sustaining trusts. On which the NYT has a delightful three pager on two approaches to newspaper publishing by two NYC Pakistanis, one preferring nicotine and the other alcohol, and neither able to elevate their readers to be sufficiently aware of this profound difference for any of the entire producer-consumer "community" to work their way out of a living. Call it Occamic Vinegar at work: http://select.nytimes.com/mem/tnt.html?emc=tnt&tntget=2008/02/10/nyregion/thecity/10paki.html what's this |
