Well, quickly knee jerkily, I can only observe that you have to start *somewhere* and the simplest proposition may be less time consuming to study and blow away.

I had accepted that Occam's Razor has merit mainly on esthetic grounds.

Biased rushed example:
Saying simply that "intelligent human life" originated here unaided in this remote planetary outback is an extremely/incredibly complicated problem, while saying it came from outer space seems rather simple. :-)
