One of the underlying assumptions in your "X" construct seems to be that selfishness and anger are wrong and to be avoided because they don't "work".

Certainly there are cases where incorrect information or perceptions might be the case, in misdirected unproductive anger.

I will assume (not know) that humans are positioned somewhere at the top of the intelligent design bureau's product line (or, alternatively, nature's implicit solution for furthering the reproduction of the species).

If so, then anger and antipathy are a natural, or intended piece of the puzzle.

Of scientific and discussion interest might be an analysis of where and when "emotions" first appeared in the biosphere, and, were they useful enough to persist, after their first appearance?
