I can make a case for it being "fundamental to our very existence and survival." It is because it is also "one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men."


Therefore it makes for a collectively more content and happy society. A content and happy society is is more likely to be productive and survive. While most gays do not reproduce our contributions to the general welfare of the public good are considerable. And therefore fundamental to our very existence and survival.


But I do take issue with your statement "Candidly? I don't give a hoot either way! (About gay marriage that is.)"

You see there are a lot of things that don't affect me directly. But I care about them deeply. The needs of others are important too. Are you apathetic about everything that doesn't directly affect you?
