HM, or: marriage in the church, is the ancient ritual bonding male and female as progenitors who usher forth the bloodline into successive generations.
Gay marriage is sought after as a seal of approval with The State, to ensure that one's "spouse" will receive due and uncontestable inheritance, as per legal agreement - adjudicated and bound by contract of Civil authority. In other words: A can leave B a huge chunk without interference from those who may contest the estate.
In addition, the right to Civil Union gives the participants a duly sworn recognition of union in all affairs,both public and private,and offers them a secure recognition of bonding, whether or not it is recognized by detractors or those who employ social denigration.
