In that case, Soviet *invasion* of Afghanistan about 1980 "triggered" the boycott, didn't it?

I am peripherally wondering if/reminded that the European colonial powers were evidently rather generally passive and ambivalent towards the United States civil war, 1860.

In brief: The USofA is not the only global power that occasionaly misses the chance to make bold, even "correct" moral statements.
