When it was blown up, I thought about the underlying motivation of such an act. Intrigued, I searched into Taliban and became more aware of the conditions developing in political Islam. Buddhist philosophy leaves the material plane to the dictates of those who struggle for domination. Many of us are dismayed by the destruction of artifacts, however, I don't see constant revisiting of the destruction of Vietnam by Napalm and Chemical defoliants as there is with this marvelously crafted piece of stone. Bigness is everything with Americans - huge observance of Pol Pot - very little of Hiroshima. Huge concern about V-2 over London - very little over Dresden. Huge concern over China in Tibet, very little over midnight massacre in Panama City.
