Edit
All military events surrounding the Gulf Region in the past twenty years have been linked to an overall strategy that is determined by resource allocation and energy demands into the next five hundred years.
There will be no letting go in Iraq, just as there will never again be 1.98 gasoline prices in the United States.
China wants to develop the existing path of The Silk Road into a six lane hwy. to Turkey and Eastern Europe. The occupation of Afghanistan has a lot to do with Iran, the Russian frontier, and the Chinese western highlands.
The US and Britain will continue to agitate the political fault lines in the Gulf R for many years to come. The huge oil and timber reserves in Russia already tilt the economic balance in their favor.
One objective of WWII was to set the Soviet back at least 50 years. That time line has concluded and now Russia has perhaps the most solvent economy in the world. This vexes, terribly, those Ambrit elements who are solely invested in geographic conquest and monetary domination. Added to this - are "The City on The Hill" Christian zealots who envision a planet of Heaven on Earth. Then we have the racist element, who cringe at coffee colored masses.
These enono-political-religio-cultural-military-techno-racial factors will insure that the sub Asian continent will be a nuclear battleground and a long term center of warfare for decades, followed by centuries of reconstructed history.
It is reasonable to consider that planetary stability will not last long enough for all of these expressions of ignorance and greed to be fulfilled.
