FF:"What mutual interests are you referring to?"

Well, quick reaction, I am concerned about overpopulation, crowding, and the despotism that that crowding tends to necessitate.

Planning long range, I think that developments in high strength materials, free trade rewarding the most efficient, (NOT STAGNATION), free exchange of information, good education, and technology in general offer an attractive option of expanding to homesteading/retiring on the Moon and Mars.

All of this may extend the time that the human race survives, although the/our demise or eventual obsolescence does seem inevitable.

In the bleeding edge of technologies and economic shifts, of course, individuals themselves may find themselves to be unneeded and obsolete, and that is a persisting threat that has no easy solutions. The question remains/persists then, is government better able to provide superior solutions, or can individuals in general accept/rise to/anticipate the challenge?

We seem to be divided pretty close to 50%-50% in the general political arena in the USofA. That is self reliance, versus trusting "benevolent" big brother, now, don't we?
