...then why do you feel the need to protect people from it? I can see some sense restricting alcohol advertising - the idiot drunks go around hurting other people. However, it's hard to say that eating burgers hurts anyone but the eater. Burgers are food - not the best food, but food. If you're going to restrict them, then logically you have to restrict candy bars, chips, sodas, those high-sodium T.V. dinners, and so forth, and so forth. I don't think the wives would appreciate us getting Valentine's candy ads banned. Maybe a decent labeling system would work: "Warning: this meal contains enough calories to feed most of Darfur for a month." I don't think the average person knows how many calories are jammed into a typical McD meal. On the other hand, maybe we should set some rules on the advertising targeting our young 'uns. Going after adults is one thing. Going after children is another. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25914206 "Robbins’s claim fails because the Hobbs Act does not apply when the National Government is the intended beneficiary of the allegedly extortionate acts." WILKIE ET AL. v. ROBBINS. David H. Souter, Justice, U.S. Supreme Court
with John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy,
Clarence Thomas, Stephen Breyer, and Samuel Alito concurring. |
