Is it necessary to point out that "going to the moon" was a religion in that it became a presumption upon which everyone called into the program relied?

If Kennedy had not chosen "moon religion", he would have had to have chosen another. The positive about "going to the moon" was that it evoked the use of a lot of technical rationality, and a little relationship rationality.

We now need religions that would evoke much more relationship rationality.

My sense is that Obama's vision, not so easily understood as Kennedy's "moon religion", has the merit of focusing on most of the elements of the actual (as distinct from vainglorious) well-being of both all USAans and of all non-USAans who can perceive the decency and impartiality in his vision.
