Welcome to The Truth Tree!  The kids in the picture were in front of Warwick Castle in England when I took their picture.  They may be a little young to be surfing the Web, but kids are a lot smarter than people think!  The Truth Tree has two different kinds of things on it. The "position statements" were written by me and should be perfectly OK for you to read.  But each position statement has a message board, and people can say anything they want to on those boards.  If you think your parents would object to your reading some of that stuff, invite them to take a look.  The Tree doesn't have any "dirty" pictures on it, but sometimes someone will post a link to stuff like that.  I believe in free speech and very seldom delete anything.  We have messages here posted by people from all over the world, and that can be very interesting.  If you are interested in the issues discussed here you may be able to get useful information for term papers or essays or other school assignments.  But remember that people put their opinions on the message boards, and their opinions are not necessarily true!  You will need to use your own good sense and check the facts.

If you or your parents have any comments, suggestions, or questions, just click here and leave me an e-mail.

Here are several really neat web sites for kids and parents, as originally reported by Parents magazine in the May 2000 issue :

  • Child Safety provides safety tips on protecting your child at home and in the car, and lets you search its database on hundreds of recalled products.
  • MedScape answers questions on topics from asthma to vaccines and has a searchable database of pharmaceuticals, health conditions and medical research.
  • Disney offers craft and activity ideas, and you can arrange a trip to the Magic Kingdom or check out Disney's latest film releases.
  • PBS, the Public Broadcasting Station, lets you check out local show times of programs from Barney to Nova, or read about animals like cheetahs and humpback whales. The kids' section has fun Sesame Street activity sheets.
  • Weather.com gives you an up-to-the-minute forecast for your area.

One site I came across recently is "Kids Love a Mystery," which has all kinds of mysteries to solve, online puzzles and the like, and learning aids for the classroom.
