If you are having problems with coming out to your parents, check out PFLAG, (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). PFLAG has resources for you and for your parents.

Click on this to find your local PFLAG web site

Lonely?  PlanetOut.Com offers free personal ads searchable by zip code and free email, as well.  You can also visit their crowded chat rooms and talk with gays all over the world.  They seem to have the highest population of gay users anywhere on the Net.  Be advised that Planetout is a for-profit web site with advertising and banner ads.

An excellent, though regional (Southeastern USA), gay newspaper is Southern Voice, which unlike PlanetOut offers independent, original gay journalism.  National and world news also receives coverage.

For detailed information on problems in the military with the "Don't ask, Don't tell, Don't pursue" policy, go to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.

Usenet Newsgroups are a valuable resource. The best one I have found for gays and lesbians is actually for the United Kingdom (UK) but they don't seem to mind English-speaking visitors from other countries.  They have a very large group of friendly and articulate regulars.  Be on your best manners and you can enjoy quality conversations and even make friends in the UK.  This newsgroup is one of the shining gems of the Usenet.  Probably THE best newsgroup to join if you are gay.  Your message must pass muster with a moderator before it appears.  You may experience a delay of 1 - 3 days before your first message is posted...be patient.

One moderated and safe newsgroup that is specifically for gay youth is

A list of web sites that may be of interest to gay youth is the Chris M. Links Page.

Religiously-oriented sites addressing homosexuality :

Gay and Lesbian Atheists and Humanists (Atheist & Gay!) - humanists adhere to a moral code without relying upon superstition

Evangelicals Concerned (Christian & Pro-Gay!)

Soulforce - a journey to end the suffering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered Americans

Homosexual.com Links Page - many gay-related and some faith-based links

Daniel Helminiak, a former Roman Catholic priest with a Ph.D in both Theology and Psychology, has written a book that may be useful to Christians.  It is called What the Bible Really Says About Homosexuality.  This book can be ordered from The Truth Tree's Library.

The Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) welcomes gays and lesbians. MCC has chapters all over the world. Click here to visit their web site, which offers translations in many languages.

The Lord is My Shepherd and He Knows I'm Gay : "I am a Gay Black woman who is proud to serve as a Deacon at Good Shepherd Parish Metropolitan Community Church in Chicago. I joined the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches in 1984 because I needed (and still need) to Worship God without feeling like a 2nd-class citizen, either because of my gender, race, or sexual orientation. Despite what many "well meaning" people say, I believe that who I am is no accident. My sexuality, like my gender and my race, is a deliberate creative reflection of God, not an accident, not a sin, not a sickness."

Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance (OCRT) : Their main mission is to promote tolerance of other faiths. Clicking here takes you to their informative page on homosexuality, which presents many issues such as the "Ex-Gay" movement which many of us find offensive and so-called "reparative therapy" from an objective standpoint, presenting both sides of each issue. This is important in order to be informed and innoculated against these old ideas. A truly excellent web site.

If you appreciate cartoons and comic books, you may want to explore the wonderful world of manga or Japanese anime, especially the yaoi variety which deals with homosexual love.  You may wish to try The Directory of Shounen ai Manga On-line. Its stated goal: "To provide a single source for all free shounen-ai manga on-line."

Two online web comics with gay elements are Silver Dragon, a story about a boy who falls in love with a hit-man his father sent to kill him (weird, yes), and The Sinner Dragon (Excellent Webcomic) - not enough can be said about this witch's web comic which surpasses whatever the newspapers print in their comics section (...any newspaper). How I wish that she would choose the Truth Truth for her server! Perhaps one day I will persuade her.

Both of these comics are, ironically or not, penned by women...

This is an excellent, and maybe the best, online source of information, instructions, advice and opinions on sexuality, for ALL sexual practices (not just gay and lesbian). Highly recommended, but don't tell Mrs. Grundy!

Bubbabear brought to my attention a humorous story based on drawings that look to be from the 1950s, very retro, about a boy who comes out of the closet at age nine.  What?!  Well, that's pretty precocious.  Most of us came out a few years later, like thirteen.  But anything's possible.  Rusty is a homosexual
