We are intensely social beings and are strongly motivated to seek contact with other beings. Since we very much want to believe that extraterrestrials exist and that we can contact them we should be suspicious of claims that they have contacted us or that we have contacted them. When people strongly want something to be true, they have an annoying tendency to conclude that it is true even when the evidence is insufficient. The Truth Tree's position is that there well may be other advanced civilizations in the universe, but that there is insufficient evidence that they have visited our planet. Of greater interest is the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) by monitoring the electromagnetic spectrum for signals which might have originated from distant civilizations. So far, nothing has been found. The search for life on Mars has been disappointing too. How sad! Or perhaps not so sad. If there are no other advanced civilizations in the universe just think of all the trouble that fact will save us when we start exploring! The Truth Tree essentially agrees with Arthur C. Clarke who has expressed the opinion that if we are ever contacted by extraterrestrials there will be no doubt about it because they will make their presence known in unmistakable ways!
